Abbot Damian Higgins and the monastic community of Holy Transfiguration Monastery, Redwood Valley, California, have been gracious hosts to our Brothers Savio and Efren (far left in photo) these past two weeks.
Holy Transfiguration Monastery is under the jurisdiction of the Eastern Catholic Diocese of Saint Nicholas in Chicago for Ukrainian Catholics. Their bishop, the Most Reverend Benedict Aleksiychuk, is himself a monk and has been on retreat at Holy Transguration Monastery these past days, so our brothers have had a chance to interact with him as well.
Abbot Damian Higgins is a master iconographer and has given classes to our two monks in the fine art of writing Byzantine icons. We have seen photos of our brothers’ work and are duly impressed. They return to Christ in the Desert on November 11th
We thank Abbot Damian and his Brotherhood for their ongoing kindness to our Monastery of Christ in the Desert and look forward to future exchanges between our two monasteries. We have been friends for many decades.
