We have reached the culmination of the Litugical Year as we recount in a special way the Passion, Death and Resurrection of the Lord.

Holy Thursday Evening Mass of the Lord’s Supper opens what is called the “Sacred Triduum,” three days of concentrated focus on what Christ experienced leading up to his rising from the dead.

Holy Thursday commemorates the Lord’s instituting the Holy Eucharist and priesthood. Good Friday recounts the Crucifixion of Christ and on Holy Saturday we remember the time Jesus spent in the tomb. Easter Sunday, of course, celebrates the day Christ rose in triumph. In fact we celebrate that event for the following fifty days, until Pentecost Sunday.

Pictured here is the “Altar of Repose,” where at the end of Holy Thursday Mass the Blessed Sacrament (Holy Communion) is kept until Easter Sunday.

Blessed Holy Triduum to all.
