We are having a beautiful Autumn thus far. The “look” of the changing of leaves in today’s photo, taken October 4th along the Rio Chama and Gallina Creek, is usually more typical of mid to late September.
Apparently we are having record breaking temperatures these days, reaching the high 70s most afternoons. This has slowed down the change in colors and falling of the leaves. No doubt nighttime temperatures will dip to near freezing in the coming weeks. And of course rain would be welcome too. By the way, Easter lilies are blooming just now too.
We are staying well and getting many outdoor projects completed, in the fields, the flowerbeds, the cloister garden, as well as shearing the sheep. A friend once asked “aren’t they freezing when you shear?” I had to remind him that sheep still have a head to foot luxurious woolen coat, even when they are sheared. By the time winter arrives, the sheep once again have a very thick coat of wool, and enjoy lounging in the snow!
