Autumn 2026 is now underway, but so far we have not received any early morning frost in our Chama Canyon setting. That means the roses in our cloister garden are still blooming.
Abundant rainfall over the past many days has added to the longevity of the roses as well, as seen in today’s photo, where they have been used to decorate in our church over the past months.
The rain we have received has been very welcome after prolonged drier than normal temperatures and numerous forest fires in parts of New Mexico this Summer. Fortunately, this year no wildfires have been near us, unlike last Summer, when they were very close.
The rainfall, though, has meant a muddy and slippery Forest Road 151 leading to the Monastery. Drier conditions are returning now, and hopefully the road will dry out in the coming days. Some retreatants and day visitors have made it in and out, but some retreatants had to cancel.
Rain or shine, we continue of “ora et labora” (prayer and work) in this beautiful desert setting.
Be assured of our prayers and please keep us in yours. Thank you.
