Generally we don’t have dramatic sunsets, such as one might see over the Pacific Ocean. Because of the mountainous cliffs to the west of us, the sun tends to simply “disappear” from sight most evenings. Today’s photo is an exception to the rule, an enjoyable sight to behold recently. No one can outdo God’s paintbrush!
Now on Summer break, two of our student monks are here, Father Gregorio and Brother Savio. The former studies in Rome, at the Pontifical University of Sant’Anselmo, and the latter at Saint Joseph Abbey Seminary College in Louisiana. While here, both are generous workers in the kitchen, the laundry, and at various other assignments, tasks that help keep the monastery in order and running smoothly. Both will return to their studies in the coming weeks.
We continue to greatly enjoy an abundance of produce from our large greenhouse, under the care of Brother David. He is regularly helped by guests on retreat, who assist with the nearly daily harvests, including lettuce, tomatoes, squash and herbs. This year has been our most successful harvest so far and has been a welcome upgrade to our daily fare.
We are praying for rain, as the Summer has seen very little, and we are grateful the forest fire in our area is now under control and nearly over.
