The official beginning of Summer is still a couple of weeks away, but green grass and roses are the order of the day in our cloister garden, in the center of the monks’ living quarters. Today’s photo illustrates the point.
Recent rain has turned our Chama Canyon wilderness and valley into a very lovely spot, perhaps the greenest we’ve seen here in some years. We look forward to more rainfall in the forthcoming “monsoon season,” typically during the months of July and August.
Late Winter snow and early Spring rain some weeks ago have also contributed to the reduction of drought conditions in our area. That always means a reduced chance of forest fires as well. For all of this, we are grateful.
Our large greenhouse near the Chama River is producing an abundance of lettuce and herbs, and soon squash and tomatoes as well. Just outside the greenhouse a large field is dedicated to onions, potatoes and corn. High fences around the field have thus far kept the deer from leaping in.
With this comes the assurance of our prayers and best wishes, that all may have a peaceful and relaxing Summer. We are grateful for your prayers as well.
