The General Chapter of the Subiaco Cassinese Congregation continues at the Benedictine Abbey of Montserrat in Spain.
Abbot Christian and seventy other abbots and delegates continue to work on revisions of the Constitutions of our Congregation, to better reflect current and future realities of our monastic communities. Nothing earth-shattering, but tweaking and adapting existing legislation is the order of the day!
The bio-diversity of the Montserrat setting is evidenced in today’s News Page photo, taken at daybreak on September 4th. Each day seems to take on a slightly different tone as rain, sun, heat and “fresco” have been part of the past several days.
Our Congregation is divided into Provinces of monasteries at every corner of the earth. Presentations, discussions and votations are simultaneously translated into seven major languages. The translations are made by monks and nuns proficient in at least two or more languages. They are not actually voters, but facilitators for everyone understanding what is going on.
The Chapter ends on Sunday, then off to Rome on Monday for the world-wide Benedictine Abbots Congress.
Prayers and greetings from Spain!
Abbot Christian
