On September 24th the assembled abbots in Rome elected Abbot Jeremias Schroder as the 11th Abbot Primate of the worldwide Benedictine Confederation. His term of office is eight years.
Abbot Primate Jeremias is from the Abbey of Saint Ottilien in Germany. He is fluent in many modern languages and will serve well as the representative of our Benedictine family of monks and nuns.
The Abbot Primate resides in Rome at Sant’Anselmo, where in fact he lived for a number of years while doing studies in the 1980s. Abbot Christian has known him since then, while completing theology studies at that time, and they have remained friends.
Abbot Primate Jeremias will no doubt appreciate prayers for his needs and intentions.
With greetings from Rome, where I am at present for the continuation of the Congress of Abbots here. See previous news postings regarding this event.
Abbot Christian, OSB
