Might part of the beauty of roses
be their memory in the midst of winter?
While much around us speaks of repose, darkness and even death,
resurrected life should never elude us.
The return to life of flora and fauna
is close to our hearts.
“To everything there is a season,”
Scripture tells us,
and we are in one such stage at this moment in history.
Cause for hope must surround us
as an antidote to a plague emerges.
Things can get better, even after passing through much that has been bleak and even wretched.
Now more than ever must monks and
everyone be beacons in the night.
Always better to light one candle
than to curse the darkness.
Abbot Christian and the monks.
