From 5:20 to 5:45 each evening we have a period of Exposition and Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament in church. Brothers simply pray in silence, sitting or kneeling, in the presence of the Lord.

Concluding the Adoration period, the Evening Prayer of the Church, Vespers, which lasts about half an hour, is chanted at 5:50. After that we proceed to supper in the monastic refectory.

Once a month, usually the first Friday of the month, but sometimes the second, we enjoy a “Desert Day” which means no assigned work that day, with more time for solitude and prayer. On the Desert Day we have Exposition and Adoration from after morning Mass until Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament at 5:35 pm, followed by Vespers.

Throughout the Desert Day brothers sign up for an hour of silent adoration in church. Because of our numbers, each hour of adoration has two or three monks present. Some monks pop in and out of church throughout the Desert Day.
