Abbot Caedmon Holmes from Portsmouth Abbey, Rhode Island

Each year our monastic community has a preached or guided retreat over several days. This year Abbot Caedmon Holmes, of Saint Gregory’s Benedictine Abbey, Portsmouth, Rhode Island, was our retreat master.

Abbot Caedmon has been a friend of ours for many years, though this was his first visit to Christ in the Desert. While here Abbot Caedmon got to see plenty of sun and 60 degree and higher temperatures, as well as a day of snow and some chilly night time temperatures.

Abbot Caedmon gave two conferences each day, about half an hour each, over six days, focused on the wonderful sayings of the Desert Fathers and Mothers of the fourth and fifth centuries. We enjoyed Abbot Caedmon’s choice of sayings and his comments on them.

We especially are grateful to the monks of Portsmouth who formed our founder Father Aelred Wall many decades ago. May God bless Abbot Caedmon and our brother monks of Portsmouth Abbey.
