Daily Martyrology for March 5

In 475, the death of St. Gerasimus, hermit. Born in Asia Minor, he became a hermit in the desert along the Jordan River. Around him a laura or monastic colony of seventy hermits grew up, and he established a monastery for aspirants as well.

In 1625, Blessed Jeremy of Valacchia, a Romanian by birth, who became a Capuchin in Naples. He spent the rest of his life taking care of the sick.
