Visiting Us > Meals & Provisions

The monastery is about 6,500 feet above sea level. The summer months of July and August can be quite wet. Snow is common in winter as is mud in spring. In winter the rooms are heated with gas space heaters.

The weather can be very cold in winter months and quite hot on summer days with cool mornings. You will need to bring appropriate clothing. No shorts in the chapel, refectory or guesthouse area, please.

All the meals are taken in the Refectory, the monastic dining room, accesible via the door leading to the Gift Shop (to the right of the Abbey Church as you face it). We do not serve red meat. Meals are in silence, except for spiritual reading or music. If you plan to miss a main meal, please inform the Guestmaster.

Linens, towels and soap are provided in the guest rooms. There is hot and cold running water in the bathrooms.

We have electricity only in the Convento and in the Church at present. We do provide rechargable battery powered lamps in all other areas. Please bring a flashlight and, if needed, a battery powered alarm clock.

We have only a satellite telephone at the monastery and do not normally allow its use by the guests. If someone needs to reach you in case of an emergency, they can phone (801)545-8567. This is our answering service. The nearest regular telephone is at Ghost Ranch, about 15 miles from the monastery.

Finally, no pets, please.
