St. Scholastica was the twin sister of St. Benedict, and had consecrated herself to God at a young age. When her brother established the monastery of Monte Cassino, she established a community of nuns a few miles away at Plombariola. Sts. Benedict and Scholastica would meet once a year for a day of prayer, Lectio and discussion. On the last of these meetings, she begged her brother to stay an extra day. He refused, so she prayed to God. A sudden storm came up, and St. Benedict was unable to leave. Consequently, they spent another day together. She died a few days later, and was buried in Monte Cassino. St. Benedict died a few years later and was buried in the same tomb.
