News from Christ in the Desert
So often in the winter here at Christ in the Desert, no guests come to stay in our Guest House. In our efforts to earn more of our own living, we have been trying to promote our Guest House so that more people will come.
For many years the road to the Monastery of Christ in the Desert was really difficult in the winter months. Now, however, the road is generally passable without any problems. The worst parts of our road are now on our own property and we are trying to fix that situation also.
Another problem used to be that there was no path from the Guest House to the Monastery. That has also changed with the addition of a very beautiful Stations of the Cross which was blessed in November of 2007, less than a month ago. The Stations of the Cross stretch from the road near the Guest House all the way to the Church, creating a graveled path the whole distance.
One of the advantages of coming to be our guest in these winter months is that there are fewer people here and this creates a more silent atmosphere. Another advantage of the winter months is the lack of bugs, snakes, bears, etc. For those who would like to come and who have fears of these types of menaces, the winter months are wonderful.
So the monks of Christ in the Desert invite you to come and spend some time with us in the winter months and enjoy the winter beauty that surrounds us.
