As you know, part of our service at the Monastery of Christ in the Desert is to provide a quiet place for guests to join us in prayer and contemplation. We strive to provide pleasant, simple lodgings for these guests. However, after forty years of constant usage, the men's bathroom at the guesthouse no longer fits that description. With your help, we will renovate it to make it more serviceable, structurally sound, and visually appealing - by the most economical means possible.
Today, however, we write to urge your assistance in the element of the Monastery that you may have thought or cared least about: the men's bathroom at the guesthouse.
As you may know from your own experience, we strive to provide pleasant, simple lodging for our guests. However, after forty years of constant usage, the men's bathroom no longer fits that criterion. Its structure and fixtures have become damaged and worn. With your help, we will renovate it to make it more serviceable, structurally sound, and visually appealing - by the most economical means possible.
Our ongoing challenges with the bathroom are a result of forty years of daily constant usage. Moisture has played a significant factor in damaging the interior and exterior walls, flooring, and ceiling; our plans include replacing all those. We will also re-level the floor and improve outside drainage. It will be in our advantage to have two custom molded shower units and new plumbing. Toilets, urinals, and sinks are in desperate need of replacing, so we will do that, as well. We will construct new wooden partitions between the toilets and urinals. We will also install a new exterior door and towel bars.
Our cost for this project will be $30,000. Especially given the quickly rising costs of gas and food and their impact on our budget, we cannot undertake this renovation without financial support from you, our friends.
Your help will contribute to our service to our guests, which is formed by our commitment to the Gospel and the entire Sacred Scriptures, by the Rule of Saint Benedict, the teachings of the Fathers of the Church and the monastic fathers, by teachings and traditions of the Catholic church, by the ordinances of the Subiaco Congregation, and by our own local Customary. We strive to live as a joyful community, struggling to be faithful to God's call to us in Christ Jesus. We have no external apostolates, but strive to have an open heart and mind to one another and to those who visit the Monastery as pilgrims and guests.
If you have never visited us or not done so recently, please come be our guest. It would be our pleasure to welcome you in the spirit of Christ Jesus. For the men among you who may stay in the guesthouse, we will look forward to offering you a new, more comfortable and safe bathroom.
Again, we hope that you will consider helping us in this much-needed renovation.
