DISCERNMENT

This section was written by Brother André, a former Vocations Director here at Christ in the Desert.

So, do you think you might want to be a monk? Could God be calling you to dedicate your life to Him by living in a monastery? If the answer is yes, the rest of this article might interest you.

First let's get down to the ground rules. Are you between twenty-two and forty years of age? Through long experience we have learned that the older a person is the more difficult is the transition from being in the "outside" world to life in the monastery. We do accept candidates who are over forty, but they must go through a longer discernment process than younger men.

Secondly, since we are Catholic Benedictine monks, an applicant should have been a practicing Catholic for at least two years. For that matter any aspirant should have the faith and the doctrine of the Church.

If you answered yes to the above qualifications, read on.
If you answered no, then maybe the Lord is calling you to a different vocation within His vineyard.
